Week 1 Jesus’ Family

Big idea

Being in Christ makes us part of his family because of what Jesus has done, so now we can live together for him.

You will need

Paper, Scissors, Crayons/Markers

Paper people chains.

Take a piece of paper, fold it in half. In the same direction fold it in half again. Draw a person on your folded paper big enough that the arms go to both edges of the paper. (If you are not sure, you can check on the following website. Search “sparkle and splatter paper people chains”)

Cut out your person but don’t cut the folded edges where the arms are.

Unfold your paper and you will find a paperchain family.

Think of people you know from church and draw their faces on your paper people, remember to include yourself. (You may need to stick a few paperchain families together.)

Bible passage

1 Corinthians 1:9-10

When we answer the call from Jesus and accept him as our Lord, not only do we have a special relationship with Him, but we also automatically have a whole family of brothers and sisters. Being in Christ makes us part of his family and unites us with a family of people that also love Jesus. Each person just like the paperchain is still an individual but like the paperchain people we are now joined together by a special bond from God.

Dear Lord

It is good to know that through the love of Jesus we become part of your family. Thank you for the brothers and sisters I have in Christ that are sitting and praying with me right now. And thank you for so many others who are part of my church family. Help us grow closer to you and each other so that we will be united in what we think and do.

We pray this in Jesus name
