Download the free You Version bible app for you smart phone or tablet.
In the app choose an audio bible in a language you and your family or growth group don’t know and listen to 1 Corinthians 14: 1-12 together.
What did you learn about living for Jesus from listening to this passage?
Was it useful in helping you understand who Jesus is and what he has done?
Now read through the same passage (1 Corinthians 14: 1-12) from the New International Readers Version (NIrV).
What did you learn about living for Jesus from listening to the passage the second time around?
Why was it easier to understand?
Paul encourages the believers of Jesus in Corinth to use their gifts and talents to build up the other members of Jesus’ Family. God gives us spiritual gifts to build-up, encourage and comfort, Jesus’ family and to share his good news with others. Sometimes people are tempted to do things that make themselves feel good about Jesus, or to look good in front of others, but God wants us to be sharing his good news with others. Some people in the church in Corinth were speaking in church using languages that the others didn’t understand. Even though speaking in other languages (even angelic languages) can be a good thing to do, Paul encouraged them to do the more helpful thing, to prophesy, to tell the good news of Jesus.
What talents do you have that you have that you can use to share the good news of Jesus?
What can you do as a family to share the good news of Jesus?
Who can you invite to Church or Christmas Carols?
Actually invite them. Kids ask the kids, parents ask the parents.
Take some time to pray together as a family. Thank God for the gifts and talents he’s given each of the people in your family. Ask God to help you use those talents well, to share His good news. Pray for the friends and families you’ve decided to invite to church.
