The Best Confirmation

Why might we be willing to pay the ultimate price for following Jesus’ teachings?

Jesus said, “Remember what I told you: ‘A servant is not greater than his master.’ If they persecuted me, they will persecute you also. If they obeyed my teaching, they will obey yours also. They will treat you this way because of my name, for they do not know the one who sent me.” (John 15:20-21)

The ultimate mistreatment of Jesus was when the leaders of the people sent him to die a criminal’s death, when he had done nothing to deserve their hatred. He had only done good and spoken the truth. Jesus makes it clear that these religious people didn’t really know God, and so they rejected and killed Jesus, not accepting that God had come to them as the man Jesus. Why, this very day, every five minutes, does a follower of Jesus follow in his footsteps in being killed for their faith? Because God has made it clear how wrong persecutors were and are about Jesus. God has confirmed Jesus to be in the right – by raising him from the dead. You can’t get a better conformation than that! This is the reason to openly follow Jesus where you are – in your family, work/school and community. And as you do, be ready for both positive and negative, deliberate and unthinking responses to God expressed toward you as a follower of Jesus.

Head: Do I understand how the resurrection of Jesus confirms Jesus to be right?

Heart: Am I ready and willing to openly follow Jesus where I am, in my family, work/school and community?

Hands: Am I ready to respond with love not only towards those whom God is drawing to trust in Jesus, but also those who reject me because of my faith in Jesus?

Prayer: Heavenly Father, I praise you for publically declaring that Jesus is right, by raising him from the dead. Please forgive me for living at times as if that public declaration hadn’t been made. Please enable me to openly live for Jesus where I am, in my family, work/school and community. It is my desire to respond with love, not only towards those whom you’re drawing to trust in Jesus, but also those who reject me because of my faith in Jesus. I praise you for those faithful followers of Jesus who have died for their faith in these last few minutes. Please enable me, as they have done, to live openly for Jesus today. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.

A song to listen to: Praise Him
